 | Keep It Short... In the realm of print the SHORT STORY is like the runner who specializes in the 100-yard-dash. They are slick, powerful, and to the point. Novelists, on the other hand, are the middle-distance and marathon runners. And regardless of the specialty, such literary athleticism requires talent, discipline, and training. Here a few titles that have impressed us recently in the sprints. Click here for More

 | Fresh Fiction... It's sometimes easy to predict future bestsellers. Too often, the same authors reach the top of the lists over and over again. And although these books are enjoyable, we all crave that fresh new voice to invigorate us. A bookseller's greatest joy is discovering talented new writers and sharing their work with friends and customers. Our staff receives "sneak peeks" at upcoming books from publishers all over the world – books that are often overlooked by the critics and media. And as a proud member of Book Sense – a network of independent booksellers across the country, the Chester County Book Company strives to make choices and recommendations based on literary merit rather than net sales. Here a few titles that have impressed us recently. Click here for More

 | CHESTER COUNTY READS ... David McCullough has been called a “master of the art of narrative history.” His books have been praised for their exceptional narrative sweep, their scholarship and insight into American life, and for their literary distinction.
His latest, 1776, has been chosen by the Chester County Library, in conjunction with the Chester County Commissioners, as the CHESTER COUNTY READS book for Fall 2007.
Mr. McCullough is twice winner of the National Book Award and twice winner of the prestigious Francis Parkman Prize. He received the Pulitzer Prize for both JOHN ADAMS and his monumental TRUMAN. For his work overall he has been honored with the National Book Foundation Distinguished Contribution to American Letters Award, the National Humanities Medal, the St. Louis Literary Award, the Carl Sandburg Award, and the New York Public Library’s Literary Lion Award.
His books include THE JOHNSTOWN FLOOD, THE GREAT BRIDGE, THE PATH BETWEEN THE SEAS, MORNINGS ON HORSEBACK, BRAVE COMPANIONS, TRUMAN, JOHN ADAMS, and 1776. As may be said of the work of few writers, none of his books has ever been out of print.
A lavishly illustrated edition of 1776 will also be forthcoming on October 2, 2007.
